178th World Anesthesia day celebrated at CMHS.
The 178th world anesthesia day was celebrated under the Motto "Health work force welbeing" at College of Medicine & Health Sciences, Hawassa University, with panel discussion and blood donation on October 16, 2024.
Dr. Genet Amare, Director of quality improvment & innovation at CMHS, officially opened the ceremony where she mentioned that the hospital is thriving to provide modern and quality health services especially in the areas of surgery and anesthesia in line with the national and international standards of patients satisfaction and safety. She added that while commemorating world anesthesia day, delivering quality health service includes not only achieving good grades by medical students but also requires care with compassion, team work and motivation to make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.
Executive board member of the Ethiopian Association of Anesthesists and V/President of Hawassa Chapter, Mr. Amanu Gashaw, also spoke on the occasion and said the world anesthesia day celebration in Ethiopia started centrally in Addis Ababa and the association has four selected chapter offices working with 30 higher education institutions having anesthesia program.
Two research papers were presented by professional anesthetists followed by brief discussion. Two prominent panelists, Dr. Dagnachew Yohanes, Executive member of the Ethiopian society of neurosurgery and head of neurosurgery unit at CMHS and Dr. Zinaye Wude, head of the department of Orthopedics & Traumatology at HU, discussed the current status of surgical procedures in Ethiopia and worldwide advancement of health services where the importance of anesthesitists was underscored in the operation room. In the panel discussion, it was revealed that researchers in anaesthesia need to update professionals on the controlled drugs medication that can cause permanent addiction with due attention.
More than 110 students of anesthesia from all batches, anaesthesia professionals from Adare and Tulla hospitals attended the ceremony. Anesthesists are aware of the importance of blood for surgery and anesthesia, so they wanted to play a leading role by donating blood on that day.
