High-level delegates of Mastercard Foundation visit Hawassa University on Monday, August 12, 2024.
The delegation was led by Prof. Peter Materu, Chief Program Officer, and Rosemery Nduhiu, Executive Director of Country programs, and included Samuel Yalew, Country Director, Ethiopia; Mekdes Girmaw, Head of Agrifood Systems; Fekadu Mulugeta -Head of Workforce Development; Beniam Tilahun, Lead, Program Planning and Monitoring, Ethiopia; and, Senait Eshetu, Youth Engagement and Inclusion Partner.
Dr. Ing. Fisiha Getachew, Vice President for Academic Affairs at HU, welcomed the guests where he expressed a hearty gratitude to the foundation for supporting the efforts of improving quality of education with the financial support through the e-SHE project.
Dr. Tesfaye Bayu, Director of e-learnig at HU, also expressed his appreciation for the support rendered by Mastercard Foundation and the e-SHE Partnership of the Ministry of Education, Arizona State University and Shayashone PLC in the establishment of the multimedia studio at our university. He explained the progress of e-learnig especially related to policy and guidelines development, creating access to standardized e-learning platforms, capacity building of instructors and the preparatory work for digital material development in the pipeline to make proper use of the resources at hand.
Prof. Peter Materu, on his part, expressed his appreciation for the hosts and explained the objectives of Mastercard Foundation in supporting universities in Ethiopia as basically to be part of the learning together as institutions. The officials also physically visited the multimedia studio established at the main campus, Hawassa University.
