College of Medicine and Health Sciences organizes a National Research Conference.
Hawassa University's College of Medicine and Health Sciences has organized a two-days' long national research conference under the theme "Promoting Equitable Health in Ethiopia: Strengthening Resilient Health System through Problem-solving Research’’ held at the African Union Hall, Main Campus.
Dr. Tafesse Matewos, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer at HU, officially opened the conference where he highlighted the need for strengthening resilient health system through problem-solving research. He stated that, "problem solving research that engages local stakeholders can help strengthening health system resilience by identifying context-specific barriers and solutions". He also mentioned that the research undertakings of HU staff have recently shown remarkable improvement and international visibility where the college of Medicine and Health Sciences is leading with policy-impacting outputs in the Ethiopian health system.
Mr. Alemu Tamiso, Chief Executive Director of the College, officially welcomed conference participants and said the platform was aimed at exploring innovative approaches to build resilient health system in Ethiopia through research that will drive positive change. He also addressed the overall endeavors and national contributions of the college to the Ethiopian health system over the last 27 years.
Dr. Endegena Abebe, Chief Executive of Research and Strategic Affairs at Ministry of Health, delivered a keynote speech where he underscored the vital role of strengthening resilient health system in Ethiopia to ensure access to quality and affordable health care. He also underscored the need to build a sustainable foundation that can withstand future uncertainties and disruptions beyond tackling current challenges. Dr. Endegena urged stakeholders to harness the power of research, collaboration and innovation to create a more resilient health system that serves as a cornerstone of health equity in Ethiopia.
On this conference, it was reported that a total of 87 research papers were selected out of 300 applications that focus on maternal and child health, infectious diseases, health promotion policy, climate change, and noncommunicable diseases.
