Hawassa University Hosts Project Annual Workshop.

Hawassa University hosted the annual project consortium members and stakeholders meeting for PREGART project, on the theme "Safety and efficacy of dolutegravir and EFV400 for pregnant and breastfeeding women; a randomized non-inferiority clinical trial" at Haile Resort, Hawassa.

PREGART is an international collaborative project sponsored by EU, EDCTP2, and led by Hawassa University in Ethiopia with consortiums in Makerere University of Uganda, Karolinska Institute of Health Sciences in Sweden, and Institute of National Health in Italy, working on clinical trials to measure safety and efficacy of drugs used to tackle mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS.

President of HU, Dr. Ayano Beraso, stated in his opening speech that the university has massive engagement in the prevention and interventions of nationwide major health problems through its collaborative projects such as PREGART.

Johanna Schaefer, representative of EDCTP2, virtually joined the opening session where she appreciated HU's commitment in leading and coordinating the overall tasks of PREGART project.

Principal investigators of the project from Ethiopia, Sweden and Uganda presented their respective experiences, progresses, outcomes, status, challenges and lessons learnt from their activities followed by plenary discussion.

Several stakeholders including representatives of the FDRE Ministry of Health and other relevant institutions, veteran researchers and practitioners in the fields of maternal and child health attended the workshop and shared their research findings to the audience.
