A team from the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. embassy in Ethiopia led by the Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer Mr. Stewart Davis has visited Hawassa University on September 15/2023.
During the visit, the American Spaces Director and the Education U.S.A. Advisor Mr. Techlemichael Tefera has conducted information sessions on studying in the U.S. for graduate and undergraduate programs, the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Initiative, and English Language Programs, at Hawassa University Main Campus, AU Hall.
Mr. Yohanan Yokamo, Director of International Relations and Alumni Affairs at HU, welcomed the team and expressed his gratitude for choosing Hawassa university to disseminate such important information among the staff and students. He emphasized that it is a good chance to enhance the capacity of both the staff and students at HU. Mr. Yokamo also expressed his gratitude for the invaluable support provided by the U.S. Embassy which has been playing a pivotal role in elevating HU's performance through its longstanding collaborations.
Dr. Mihreteab Abraham, Coordinator of the English Language Improvement Center at HU, also extended a warm welcome to the visiting team and expressed high appreciation for their efforts in supporting the Center at Hawassa University.
The team provided valuable information about the numerous opportunities available for undergraduate and graduate programs in the United States of America. Throughout the session, the participants had the opportunity to ask questions, and the U.S. Embassy team offered insightful responses.
After the conclusion of the information sessions, the U.S. Embassy team had engaged in discussions with Mr. Yohanan and Dr. Mihreteab on potential areas of future collaboration between the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa and Hawassa University.
