Curriculum Review Workshop on MA in Teaching Sidaamu Afoo.
College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hawassa University, has organized an external curriculum review workshop to launch Master Arts degree program in Teaching Sidaama Afoo held at African Union Hall, main campus.
Mr. Hailu Sherbo, Head of the Sidaamu Afoo and Literature Department, highlighted the sinificance of this workshop, underscoring the importance of receiving insights from external professionals to ensure the curriculum's quality and relevance. He remarked that assessment process showcases the university's commitment to provide need based and quality education.
Dr. Zeleke Arficho, Dean of the CSSH, warmly welcomed the participants and evaluators from AAU. He noted that an internal curriculum evaluation had been conducted in June 2023, and refinements have been made by the curriculum development committee incorporating the feedback obtained during the first workshop. Dr. Zeleke emphasized the college's continuous efforts to expand its postgraduate programs, catering to the diverse educational needs of students and the university at large.
Dr. Taye G/Mariam, Dean of the Postgraduate School of HU, highlighted the unique importance of this workshop where he uplauded the university's commitment to incorporate the local language into postgraduate programs. He indicated that the initiative aligns with the university's identity as a research-focused institution and enhances its contributions to the community and beyond.
Mr. Wendu Mesele, one of the members of the curriculum development committee, presented the contextual background, the rationale, objectives and contents of the designed curriculum.
The two external reviewers, Dr. Alemitu Oli and Dr. Getachew Endalemaw from Addis Ababa University, also shared their valuable perspectives on the contents and structure of the newly designed curriculum. Their inputs will contribute to the ongoing refinement of the curriculum to ensure its quality and alignment with current educational standards.
The Masters degree program is believed to be launched during the coming academic year after further refinement, and it's going to be one of the remarkable commitments of Hawassa university in promoting Sidama language, culture and indigenous knowledge through education and research.
