As part of Green Legacy, Indian Expatriates planted trees at Hawassa University-Main Campus as part of celebration of 75th Independence Day of India.
Dr. Tafesse Mathewos, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer along with some his Indian and Ethiopian colleagues participated in the tree plantation drive. Dr. Tafesse has officially opened the program and welcomed all the participants of the program. He mentioned that it’s an honor to plant trees with Indian Expatriates of Hawassa University.
In his turn, Acting Vice President for Business and Development, Eng. Yordanos Yokamo stated that it’s his great pleasure to participate in this tree plantation at Hawassa University with Indian Expatriates.
Professor Raman Kumar has explained about the 75th Independence Day of India to participants of the program. He said as we all know that India got its independence in 1947 and had commemorated its 75 years of Independence. The following year (1948), Ethiopia was one of the first countries in Africa to establish diplomatic relations with India. India and Ethiopia will be celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations. Embassy of India, Addis Ababa has taken lead in commemorating India@75 and IndiaEthiopia@75 during 2021-2023. Independence Day of India fell on 15th August and as part of celebration of India@75, Indian Embassy, Addis Ababa has been observing “Special events till the 3rd week August 2021.
Dr. Sivakumar Somasundarm mentioned that the Indian Embassy has chosen Hawassa University among the selected six universities in Ethiopia to plant trees.
Finally, participants mentioned that the plants will be maintained by Indian Expatriates and in the future, it will be a memorable contribution by Indian Expatriates to Hawassa University.
