Hawassa University Honors Dr. Aberra  A. Gobezie for Life Time Health Service

Hawassa University College of Medicine and Health Sciences has honored its founding Dean Aberra  A. Gobezie, MD ,FCS-ECSA, a consultant surgeon and urologist, an Associate professor of Surgery & Urology, on the second national health conference held at AU Hall.

Born on March 21, 1957 in Bahir Dar, Dr. Aberra has served in the Ethiopian health sector with enthusiasm and complete dedication over the years after he received his medical doctors degree from Sofia Medical Academy (Bulgaria) in 1985. Dr. Aberra got Specialty Certificate in Surgery from Addis Ababa University Medical Faculty in 1995, Sub specialty certificate in Urology from Christian Medical College Vellore (India) in 2008, Fellowship as well as ToT certificate in emergency surgery & Urology from the College of surgeon of East, Central and South Africa (COSECSA) in Nairobi –Kenya in 2014.

Dr. Aberra is recognized with a Lifetime Award by the university as the first Dean of college of medicine and health sciences for his incredible contributions towards the establishment of the college and his tireless health services across the country. He received several awards for his services in the past, but Dr. Aberra expressed his excitement about this one saying that, "I have had two children (a daughter and a son), but always considered CMHS my third". He is still serving as CPD Director at Yanet-Liyana College of Health Sciences after retirement. Congratulations and long life Dr. Aberra!
