CLG HU, British Council Ethiopia Organize External Validation Workshop for Research Undertaken by EUPE Project

College of Law and Governance at Hawassa University, in collaboration with British Council Ethiopia, has conducted an external validation workshop for research projects executed as part of their collaborative project, Enabling University Peace Education (EUPE).

Dr. Tafesse Matewos, Vice President for RTT at HU has officially opened the workshop where he highlighted the invaluable contributions of Hawassa University to over all national development over the years. He has pointed out the university's endeavours in knowledge production through education, research and community services on diverse areas of national, regional and international concern over the past 48 years since its foundation.

Moreover, the Vice President underscored that HU is currently undertaking 27 thematic and 70 disciplinary research projects, executing 163 projects through 84 active collaborative projects among which 9 of them were won in the past six months. He also emphasized the encouraging development in trends of research publication by the staff and the need for further effort to meet the expectations of our modern world from the academia, especially issues pertaining to SDG. Dr. Tafesse also elaborated on the fact that 'Peace, governance and diplomacy' constitutes one of the 8 priority areas of HU and the Ethiopian national research strategy, so he appreciated the collaborative efforts of CLG and British Council to work on EUPE.

Dr. Debrework Debebe, Dean of CLG and Coordinator of the EUPE Project at HU, also heartily thanked all stakeholders for their priceless contributions as leaders, trainers, researchers, organizers, supervisors, assistants and mentors.

A total of 8 research projects focused on peace building processes and women's role, contributions of indigenous peace building and conflict resolution mechanisms to the national dialogue and transitional justice, policies and practices of addressing GBV, University students' culture of peace, the role of urban communities in conflict management were presented for validation followed by warm scholarly discussions and constructive comments from the audience.
