The Main Campus is located north of Hawassa town along the highway connecting Addis Ababa, the capital city, with the southernmost town of Moyale on the Kenyan border.
The genesis of HU was laid four decades ago in the mid-1970s (GC), with the establishment of 'Awassa College of Agriculture'- ACA in 1976.
Currently, HU has eight Colleges and two Institutes scattered across seven campuses.
