IoT is located adjacent to the main campus where an arch bridge connects both across the tarmac road. It is one of the biggest and fast-growing campuses of HU.

It is a home for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs in Engineering & Technology hosting over 10,000 students. The Institute is diversifying its areas of training in need-oriented way the new programs including Biomedical Engineering, Garment Technology and Textile Engineering in order to avail needed human power for the flourishing textile industries including those in Hawassa Industry Park. The Institute is also deeply engaged in producing innovations both by its Faculties and students some of which include: sowing machine, water pumping device using the flowing water of a river, soil treatment chemicals and refinement of a coffee processing machine.
