Congratulations!!! Hawassa University has received a new patent right from Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority for "BLANDOPEDIA/Technology Assisted Instruction” which is related to a Blended Learning and evaluation system.
The invention is the first of its kind in Ethiopia which has been developed in Hawassa University by Dr. Mulu Geta Gencha, Associate Professor of Teaching English as Foreign Language, at the Department of English Language & Literature, with his research team members.
The system helps to transform the conventional (face-to-face) mode of teaching into technology-assisted instruction. It includes both face-to-face and computerized systems in accordance with the students' educational interests.
Blandopedia also allows learners and instructors to log into certain academic actions with ease, such as uploading instruction materials, course registration, and payment. The system can automatically monitor every learner's log activity, set deadlines for completion of every learning activity, and restrict access to learning tasks once the deadline has passed.
The medium scale project of three years was started in 2018 and completed in 2020 with a total budget of 550, 000 ETB. Six modules in English Language skills, Communicative English Language skills I&II, Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills were designed in blended Learning form in HU website to reach our internal and external stakeholders during COVID-19 pandemic and after the pandemic. The hard copies are accessible at Hawassa university's Social Science Library, Main Campus.
