The genesis of College of Social Science was laid down in 2006. At the time the college used to render its responsibilities mainly through three faculties functioning under it: Faculty of Business Economics, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Social Science. However, following various restructurings that took place over the years, some academic units were merged while most of the faculties separated which eventually resulted in the College to take its present shape and nomenclature College of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2011.
In its current status, the College has eight Departments. These are:

- Department of Journalism and Communication Studies
- Department of Psychology
- Department of Sociology
- Department of Chinese Language and Literature
