Hawassa University, Farm Africa Ethiopia, Organize Training on Landscape Change Tracking System (LCTS) Application

Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resources at Hawassa University, in collaboration with Farm Africa Ethiopia and Oromia Environmental Protection Authority, has organized a two weeks long capacity building training for 15 experts on the practical application of the Landscape Change Tracking system (LCTS) piloted in the Bale Ecosystem for scale up to the Oromia region.


The training is aimed at equipping forest management and environmental protection experts recruited from different zones in Oromia regional state and the office of environmental protection authority with practical skills in applying the system for geospatial data acquisition, management, and analysis.


During the launching ceremony of the training, Dr. Teshale W/Amanuel, Dean of the college, noted that the training demonstrates the strong commitment of stakeholders to implement innovative outputs from the university in the forestry sector. He was grateful to the partners in the development of the system and his colleagues for their remarkable achievements.

Deputy Director General of Oromia Environment protection authority, Mr. Bona Yadessa, officiated the ceremony where he expressed deep gratitude for Farm Africa Ethiopia and Wondogenet college of Forestry and natural resources for their successful collaboration in transforming the forestry development sector.


Dr. Gudina Legesse, Head of Programs at Farm Africa Ethiopia, also appreciated the people and government of Norway for the continued and unwavering support to realize Farm Africa's projects and other pertinent Ethiopian development projects at large. He mentioned that the Landscape Change Tracking System is poised to be a national resource as it is scaled up from the pilot implementation in Bale Ecosystem to regional level across Oromia at the start.


Dr. Gudina added that this is one of the most accomplished projects of Farm Africa translated into practical application which is going to empower system devepment in Ethiopia.
