Hawassa University signs MoU for Collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture.

Dr. Ayano Berasso (HU President) and H.E. Prof. Eyasu Elias (State Minister, FDRE Ministry of Agriculture) signed a Memorandum of Understand to work in collaboration on areas of mutual interest witnessed by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ethiopia.

HU’s President warmly welcomed both the State Minster and the Norwegian Ambassador to Ethiopia, and he explained the roles of Hawassa University as conducting scientific study to identify major and micro watersheds that would eventually contribute to maintain context-specific and robust landscape research to bring about policy dialogue.

The State Minister, Prof. Eyasu Elias, pointed out key areas of collaborations aimed at identifying three major watersheds aligned with the three major agro-ecologies representation per region so as to strategically intervene in the existing model. He mentioned that the role of the Ministry of Agriculture is to facilitate the implementation of the activities outlined in the agreement through its regional structure and program coordination units.

H.E. Mr. Stian Christensen, Ambassador of Norway to Ethiopia who witnessed the MoU signing ceremony, remarked that the Embassy will follow up the implementation of the collaboration over the coming five years, participate in annual review workshops, and provide guidance in line with the objectives of the collaborative projects.
