Conference on Quality Education and Technology

HU hosts National Conference on Quality Education and Technology.

College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, Hawassa University, in collaboration with Office of V/President for RTT hosted its third national conference with the theme "Quality Education for Sustainable Development: The role of Technology".

Dr. Ayano Beraso, President of HU, officially opened the conference and underlined that the university is striving for quality education through advanced multidisciplinary teaching and learning, conducting problem-solving researches and delivering community services in its catchment areas and across the nation. He also mentioned that the conference was organized with the aim of providing an excellent national platform for academicians, researchers and post graduate students in the field of education across the country to share their research findings and lay the foundation for future national endeavors in improving quality of education in this era of technology.

Dr. Tafesse Matewos, Vice President for RTT at HU, added that strengthening the center of excellence in teacher education is among the top five priority areas of HU in its strategic plan of transitioning towards an autonomous research university. Hence, improving academic staff profile, increasing the proportion of graduate students, research publication, and conduct joint researches with industries are essential to realize HU's vision of becoming one of the ten premiere universities in Africa by 2030.

Dr. Samuel Assefa, Dean of the College, welcomed participants and highlighted on the college's successful engagements in various national tasks aimed at improving quality of education in Ethiopia including the coordination of text books and distance education materials preparation with the Ministry of Education as a national center of excellence. He added that they have been engaged in wide range of community service activities in the locality, and they envision the establishment of KG alongside the model community highschool, and add a testing center, a center to support students with disabilities, and a psycho-social and counseling center that would enable the college to expand its community services for the University and the surrounding community.

A key note speech was given by the distinguished Professor Darge Wolle Meshesha from Adiss Ababa University on how modern technology is both a blessing and curse for quality of education worldwide. He stressed the need to have forward thinking while utilizing technology in ensuring quality of education and device means to curb the challenges associated.

More than 50 researchers with various academic ranks and background have participated in the conference held at AU Hall on April18, 2024.
