Livestock production under changing environment: CLIFOOD SDG Graduate schools running an international workshop at Hawassa University

Yesterday, the Block Seminar “Intensification of African Livestock Systems in a Changing World” started at the College of Agriculture, Hawassa University. The Block Seminar is part or the qualification program within German-Ethiopian SDG Graduate School: Climate Change Effects on Food Security (CLIFOOD), established between the Food Security Center, University of Hohenheim (Germany) and the Hawassa University (Ethiopia). The main objective of the CLIFOOD is the Education of African students at the (post)doctorate level to address threats of Climate Change to food Security in the Eastern African region. During the next 5 days the participants will learn about different aspects of livestock production: Nutrition and feed science, Animal breeding and husbandry, Livestock systems development, Environmental impacts of livestock farming, Future contribution of livestock to sustainable food and nutrition security. Also the CLIFOOD scholars will present and discuss results of their research work.

The program of the block seminar was opened by Dr. Tesfaye Abebe (the former Vice President), HU Scientific leader of CLIFOOD at Hawassa University. Further welcome speeches were given by Dr. Sintayehu Yigrem and Dr. Susanne Dreschl-Bogale, CLIFOOD coordinator at Hawassa University and the University of Hohenheim as well as scientific leaders of the Block Seminar Prof. Dr. Aberra Melesse (Hawassa University) and Prof. Dr. Uta Dickhöfer (University of Hohenheim).
The PhD block seminar is open for Hawassa University Graduate students (PhDs, and MScs), which is running from today 26 Nov. 2018 until Friday 30 Nov. 2018. Officials from Hawassa University and invited guests from Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America will also join the program, especially on Friday 30 Nov. 2018. Invited experts from various countries and institutions talk on various topics in relation to the theme of the workshop.

CLIFOOD is supported by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Graduate school is one of the seven SDG graduate schools supported by DAAD, and is launched officially in May 2017, between Hawassa University and the University of Hohenheim.

ሀዋሳ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ሴት ተማሪዎች በትምህርታቸው ብቁና ተወዳዳሪ እንዲሆኑ ትኩረት ሰጥቶ እየሰራ መሆኑን የዩኒቭርሲቲው ስርዓተ ፆታ ና ኤች አይቪ /ኤድስ ጉዳዮች ዳይሬክቶሬት ዳይሬክቴር ሲ/ር ትዕግስት ከበደ ገለፁ፡፡  በዘንድሮው የትምህርት ዘመን ወደ ዩኒቨርሲቲው ለመጡ አዲስ ገቢ ሴት ተማሪዎች የምክክር መድረክ ላይ እንዳስታወቁት ዩኒቨርሲቲው ሴት ተማሪዎችን ለማብቃትና ተሳትፎአቸውንና ተጠቃሚነታቸውን በሁሉም መልክ ለመጨመር ዘርፈብዙ ተግባራትን እያከናወነ ይገኛል፡፡
በዚህም መሰረት በዩኒቨርሲቲው ስር በሚገኙ 7ቱም ካምፓሶች የስርዓተ-ፆታና ኤች አይ ቪ ጉዳዮች ማስተባበሪያ ጽ/ቤቶች መደራጀታቸውንና ሴት ተማሪዎች በዩኒቨርሲቲው ቆይታቸው ለሚገጥማቸው ማናቸውም ችግሮች ከጎን ሆኖ ሙያዊ ድጋፍ ለማድረግ መዘጋጀቱን አስረድተዋል፡፡

ከሚመጡበት አከባቢ የድኀነት ድጋፍ ማስረጃ ይዘው ለሚመጡና ተጨማ ድጋፊ ለሚያስፈልጋቸው ሴት ተማሪዎች ከተለያዩ መንግስታዊ ያልሆኑ ድርጅቶችና ከዩኒቨርሲው ለዚሁ በተሰጠው የገቢ ማመንጫ ፕሮጀክት በሚገኘው ገንዘብ አስፈላግ የሆኑ የንጽህና መጠበቂያና የትምህርት መርጃ ቁሳቁሶች ድጋፍ እየተደረገ እንደሚገኝ አስታውቀዋል፡፡ 

ኀዳር 09/2011 ዓም በዋናው ግቢ የአፍሪካ ኀብረት አደራሽ በተካሄደው በዚሁ ፕሮግራም ላይ ከሁሉም ካምፓሶች የተውጣጡ ከ1000 (አንድ ሺ) በላይ ሴት ተማሪዎች መሳተፋቸው ታውቋል፡፡
