Call for NORHED Funded Master Scholarship

The NORHED-DEG  project entitled ‘Institutional cooperation for capacity Building of Higher Education and Local Authorities for Democratic and Economic Governance in South Sudan and Ethiopia,’ under Hawassa university will seek to award three to five M.A scholarships for female applicant who successfully completed their study under school of Governance and Development studies or related field with superior GPA .

Mission Statement

One of the NORHED-DEG sub-programme ‘women empowerment’ aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of the School of Governance and Development Studies (SGaDS) through fostering gender balance by recruiting and training former successful female student of the school or relevant field of study to be prospective academic staff members . 

Area of Study, benefit and Strategy

The applicant should agree to be trained in the areas of priority subject designated by school. The successful applicant can continue their master study within Hawassa or Addis Ababa University and even abroad if it is necessary. The project will pay a reasonable stipend for applicant including tuition fee, monthly allowance, and covers their research cost. The research work of applicant should be carried out on selected thematic areas under the guidance of Centre for Policy and Development Research (CPDR). The scholarship stay for two years and candidates must finish their study in two years period. Candidates will also need to commit themselves to serve the University in general and school of Governance and Development Studies in particular after completing their study. The scholarship will be active from September 2014.


Former SGaDS female students who have B.A degree in Governance and Development Studies or from other related fields with cumulative GPA of 3.00 and above are eligible. Preference will be given to SGaDS students.

Selection Process and announcement

An independent selection committee which is assigned by project office will assess and ranks all applications according to academic qualification and relevance. The selections will take place between June 15-25, 2014. Applicant who is screened for interview and examination will be contacted soon after submission of the application. The final result of the short listed candidates will be notified by the end of June 2014.
